One of my friends is a Phan (meaning a fan of the Phantom). How do I make him a Phantom of the Opera mask?
His birthday's coming up, and he's very obsessed with A.L. Webber's Phantom.
I don't wanna buy since I'm short on cash.
How do I make a Phantom mask?
Plaster of Paris? Clay? Crummy?
Smear of Paris or paper mache is your best bet. Get him to sit down in a comfortable chair. Tilt his head back. Realize sure he's comfortable, because he'll be sitting like that for a while. Start by glooping a bunch of vaseline all over his physiognomy. A LOT. Especially on his eyebrows. Avoid his eyes. Make sure his hair is well out of the way. Then use the POP or the paper mache to base the mask. The vaseline will stop it from sticking to his skin. With paper mache, you only need a few thin layers. You can keep edifice after it's off his face. With the POP, you can do a thicker layer. It doesn't have to be perfect, since once it's dry, you can reshape it somewhat by adding or acerbic off bits. Once it's dry, you can pull the mask off, and it should come off cleanly.
