Masks reveal talent of local artist London Free Press

London artist Joanna Mozdzen worked on the producing line at a vehicle manufacturing plant for many years. Her creativity and artistic talent lay hidden to the general, but she kept alive a dream to one day exhibit.

It took a layoff for Mozdzen to take a chance on her art.

Now her abilities are on magnificence for all to see.

Mozdzen's individual art exhibition Playing with Duality opens Tuesday at The Arts Project.

The show features decorative masks made of neoprene and sculptures made of clay.

Her art explores the conundrum and complexity of the human experience. She also studies the theme of duality and how every human has both masculine and feminine qualities, giving her line an androgynous look.

Mozdzen said every day she's surrounded by countless moments of inspiration. It wasn't always thus.

"In 2007, I overcame my deprecating fears. I was scared, not sure if my art was good enough. I never had a belief in my art. My low self-esteem was holding me back.
